iPhone sales seen at 3.5 million in two years

MOSCOW (Reuters) - Apple expects to sell 3.5 million iPhones in Russia in the next two years, according to market sources familiar with new deals being struck by Russian carriers.

Up to 600,000 iPhones have already flooded into Russia through unauthorized sales but now at least two carriers have signed an official framework agreement with the manufacturer and one more deal is expected next week, according to analysts and market sources.

A market source told Reuters on Thursday Mobile TeleSystems (MTS), Russia's largest carrier, had agreed with Apple to sell iPhones, probably starting in October

Eldar Murtazin, an analyst with Moscow-based Mobile Research Group, said he had information that MTS was targeting sales of 1 million iPhones within the next two years.

"Total sales by the Big Three carriers will amount to 3.5 million iPhones within the next two years," Murtazin said, citing sources familiar with the negotiations.

MTS and its key rivals, Vimpelcom and MegaFon, which are also talking to Apple, declined to comment.

Apple said it aimed to sell 10 million iPhones worldwide this year, though analysts said it would beat its target after its new model, which supports third generation (3G) high speed data, sold at a rate of 1 million units in the first weekend.

IPhones have not been sold officially in Russia but have become a status symbol in the Russian capital with handsets brought into the country in suitcases or by courier.
Murtazin said the start of authorized sales is unlikely to trigger a big wave of consumer demand.

RISKY FOR CARRIERS

Carriers are expected to buy the iPhone from Apple for $399 and sell for 24,000 roubles ($990), Murtazin said, well below the price at which the gadget is currently offered by unauthorized dealers, but above a minimum price at which the iPhone can be bought abroad.

Murtazin said operators had been unable to obtain commitments on volume from the independent retailers who sell phones on their behalf.

"This number (3.5 million) could turn out to be inflated... The operators could lose money because they took all risks upon themselves having failed to dictate terms to retail chains through which they will sell the iPhones," said Murtazin.

Ivan Shuvalov, analyst at Alfa Bank, said the Russian operators could fail to meet the sales target and lose money if the price proves to be too high.

But if Russian consumers are willing to buy at that price, operators will win because smartphones stimulate subscribers to use more value-added services such as mobile Internet and data transmission, Shuvalov said.

Russian operators get the bulk of their revenues from voice traffic, with a much smaller share of value added data services than Western operators.

OpenClip.org - Working Hard to make iPhone Cut/Paste a Reality

OpenClip is not an app, but rather a community who, like everyone else, wants to have Cut/Paste functionality in the iPhone/iPod Touch. So much so that they’ve taken the initiative to make this a reality by sharing their knowledge with others so that developers can integrate this feature into their software. No need to jailbreak or download a particular plug-in to avail of this feature. Just get yourself one of the participating apps, and you can use cut/paste in the app itself as well as with the others in the select group.

Kudos to these guys for taking the time and effort to bring this desired functionality to the iPhone even if it’s limited to a handful of apps only. I wonder when will Apple finally come to their senses and make it an official feature on the device?

Apple updates iPhone software to fix glitches

NEW YORK (Reuters) - Apple Inc has issued a software update for the latest iPhone to help fix connection problems that led to a flurry of online complaints from customers, a European mobile service provider said on Tuesday.

T-Mobile, owned by Deutsche Telekom AG, said the software was available for users to download to their iPhones on Tuesday, but that it was not yet clear if the upgrade would fix all the connection problems.

"We have had complaints about connectivity in the Netherlands but have not had more complaints than usual for a 3G phone in Germany. Our technicians said today Apple has issued a software update but it is too early to tell if the problems are solved," a T-Mobile spokesman said.

AT&T Inc the only U.S. network operator carrying the iPhone, confirmed that Apple had provided a software update but declined to give details about what it was aimed at fixing.
Apple, which sold about a million iPhones around the launch weekend in July, was not immediately available for comment.

One of the key attractions of the latest iPhone is its faster, third-generation (3G) Web connections when compared with the first iPhone that was launched in mid-2007.
However, users around the world have complained about dropped calls and inconsistent Internet speeds, with the phone often reverting to a slower technology known as Edge even in 3G areas.

Nomura analyst Richard Windsor and media reports have blamed faulty software on an Infineon Technologies AG chip for the problems. Infineon declined to comment about iPhone but noted that its chips work on 3G phones from suppliers such as Samsung Electronics Co without problems.
The iPhone 3G has gone on sale in about 22 countries since its launch on July 11.

Palm Treo Pro 850 Uncovered.

A number of images of a new Palm Treo Pro have been dug up and posted online. Forum member scottymomo at WMExperts poked around Palm's Learning site and found a unposed flash tutorial of the unannounced new Treo.

The Treo Pro appears to be the official name of the previously leaked Treo 850. The earlier blurrycam pics match up with this new set and also fits the description of the code-named Palm Drucker, which was leaked back in January. The last set of rumors on this device pegged it as a Windows Mobile 6.1 powered Quad-band 3G GSM phone with Wi-Fi, GPS, Bluetooth, a 400 MHz processor and an approximate thickness of around ~.55 inches (14mm), a noticeable reduction from Treo's past.

Aside from the black and sleek refreshed, Centro inspired design, new details revealed from this set of pics include a 3.5mm headphone jack, a dedicated Wi-Fi button, an unspecified but presumably a microSD expansion slot and a microUSB connector. Also present is a "flush" touchscreen, the usual ringer switch and a new button arrangement.

Winpwn 2.0 Guide

Here is a working winpwn 2.0 guide updated to include 2.0.1 firmware. Here is what you need:

1) Winpwn 2.0.0.4 or newer.
2) iTunes 7.7 or newer.
3) Boot images for 3.9 and 4.6.
4) The proper restore file. Get your 2g restore image or 3g restore image.

Let’s get started.

Step 1: Install winpwn, iTunes, and extract your restore images and bootloaders to your desktop. Note: if you have a previous copy of winpwn installed, uninstall it before installing the new one.

Step 2: Connect your iPhone to your PC and load up winpwn. You will see this screen:

Step 3: Winpwn will not allow you to do anything without selecting a firmware image. So, click “Browse .ipsw” button and select your firmware image from your desktop. Note: winpwn will determine if you have an iPod, an iPhone 3g, or an iPhone 2g based off the firmware image you select and downloaded. So make sure you got the correct image. 2g and 3g iPhones have different firmwares!
Step 4: Next, we need to build the iPhone software image. Click “IPSW Builder” and you will be presented with some screens. Start on the Applications tab. On this screen you must select “Install Cydia”. If you need youtube patched then select also “YouTube activation fix”. You do not need to select this if you have a contract carrier such as AT&T. As far as installer goes, feel fee to select it if you want. But do not select installer instead of Cydia. Cydia has all the apps. Installer does not and installer is still very beta as of August 9, 2008 and contains virtually no packages to install. If you select installer, also select Cydia.

Step 5: Click the custom images tab. Here you can select custom boot images if you care to. This is optional.

Step 6: Click the custom payload tab. Here you can select some payloads in .tar format. At this time there are a couple built in payloads so there is nothing to do here. If you make your own payloads for packages you can select them here. So we are skipping this screen.
Step 7: Click Advanced tab. This is a critical tab. If you have a contract carrier such as AT&T you do not need to unlock. So you must make sure everything is unchecked here. Again, if you have a contract carrier, select nothing here! If you do not have a contract carrier, you will need to use this to configure activation and unlocking. Check activate phone, Enable Baseband Update, Unlock Baseband, Autodelete Bootneuter.app. Click the two bootloader file buttons and browse for your 3.9 and 4.6 firmware we downloaded at the start of this guide. Your finished screen needs to look something like this:

Note: If you are activating here by checking the “activate iphone” you should also patch youtube on the first applications screen.

Step 8: Partition resizer. Here is the partition resizer screen. With the current version fo Winpwn, move this to 550 mb. The extra packages will fill the root partition before Cydia gets to run and move things about. Do not make it any larger though because Cydia moves your apps around properly to the larger partition so if you resize this larger here you are just losing space.

Step 9: Build the custom IPSW. Click “Build .ipsw” at the bottom of the window. Note: save your file to some place sensible so you can find it. The default location is going to be hard to find. Try your documents or your desktop. Winpwn will crank away and finally you will see the success box:

Step 10: Note: if you are currently pwned, (phone boots with custom logo still) you can skip to step 12 and restore with the image you just made. Doing this step will not hurt but is not required for you.

Back to the main screen, select iPwner. This will ask you to select your custom firmware we just built in step 8. So select that file.

You will get a success message and you are done with winpwn!

Step 11: Get your phone into DFU mode. You cannot use any tools to do this. It must be hardware DFU mode only done by pressing the buttons on your device.

DFU Mode

DFU (Device Firmware Upgrade) mode is not the same as restore mode. DFU mode bypasses the current OS installed and allows you to upgrade or downgrade your OS. If you are getting errors trying to restore in iTunes, DFU mode is very likely for you.

This is how to achieve DFU mode. You can do it on every phone:

  • Attach the phone to the pc
  • Turn the phone off
  • Hold power and home together for *exactly* 10 seconds
  • Release power but keep holding home until the pc beeps as a USB device is recognized.
  • At no point will the display come on. Now your restore should work.

Having problems? Try adjusting the 10 seconds to be slightly less like 9 seconds, then 8, then 7. It’s a tricky timing but you will eventually get it.

Here is an alternate method:

  • Hook up the phone powered on to the PC
  • Now hold home / power until the phone turns off and keep holding for 10 seconds. If the phone ever turns on during this phase, start over and hold for less time.
  • Now release power and continue holding home until the PC recognizes the phone.
  • I don’t like this method as much because there are “rumors” that it may cause some 1604 errors in the restore. I am not convinced of that though.

This works on every device so keep trying if you are having problems.

Step 12: While in DFU mode, load iTunes 7.7, and restore using shift-restore. Load the custom firmware image we made. And after about 10-15 minutes you are done.

Note: if your device was already pwned and you are just upgrading, you do not need DFU mode. Normal recovery mode may work fine. You should try either one and if you have problems try the other.

Troubleshooting:

If you are getting errors in iTunes less than 20 you are not in DFU mode. Refer to my DFU guide.

If you are getting 160x errors (1600, 1601, 1602, 1604) you may have used the wrong firmware image for your device. Make sure you got the correct image for your 2g or 3g phone. They are not the same. For help on iTunes errors refer to my restore guide.

If you are using winpwn version earlier than 2.0.0.3 you may see 160x errors.

If the last tab only lets you select activate, (step 7) you probably loaded the 3g firmware image. iPhone 3g cannot be unlocked at this time. If you have 2g, you loaded the wrong firmware image to start.

If you have no signal on a contract carrier (AT&T for example), you probably activated but did not unlock (checked the activate box on step 7). If you do not have a contract carrier, you need to unlock. Redo the steps again making sure not to make this mistake.

If your mail crashes after you sync your backup, use BossPrefs, more, fix user dir permissions.

If iTunes will not stop asking you if you want to restore your backup, see this.

How to unlock iPhone 3G with FuriouSim

iPhone 3G unlocking with FuriouSim

Optimizing your Blog for Google Search

In addition to participating in the AdSense network, you may also be
interested in having your site ranked in organic Google search. In this post,
I'll highlight some important points for search optimization. While there's no a
magic formula to make your site show up first on a search results page, there
are some good practices when it comes to links, design, content, and the
structure of your site.

First of all, as a reminder, Google organic search and AdSense are independent
of each other. Displaying AdSense ads on a site won't change the ranking of the
site in Google search in any way. So it follows that sites containing AdSense
ads don't receive special treatment in Google search.

Ranking in Google search is based on many different algorithms, and optimization
for search is a long, continuous process. For these reasons, and because the
techniques might

violate our guidelines
, we recommend avoiding any techniques that claim to
optimize your ranking very quickly or radically. If you have concerns or
questions, you can consult other webmasters on a number of forums, including
Google's official
forum
for webmaster-related issues.

We encourage you to monitor the quality of your site's backlinks -- links from
any site directing to your site. To increase your site's popularity, check if
other sites that discuss similar topics or have a similar reader base are aware
your site exists.

Outgoing links are also important and should comply with our

guidelines
. When you create a link to another site, we recommend first
asking yourself: "Is this link going to be useful for my visitors?" or
"Is this link likely to be clicked by my visitors?"
. Don't participate in
link schemes or buy/sell links that pass PageRank, as it is against our
guidelines and may hurt your site's performance in our search results.

Here are some tips for structuring your site:

  • Your pages should have a clear hierarchy and relevant internal links. We
    also recommend

    creating a Sitemap
    and using
    Google's
    Webmaster Tools
. These tools are useful, user-friendly and will provide
information such as where your backlinks come from or which queries visitors
    used to reach your site.

  • tags that are explicit and useful for the user. For example, avoid a
title like "Homepage" or "Welcome to my site".Use

  • For images, use ALT attributes to describe appropriately what the image
is about. We've recently created a quick and useful
    YouTube video on
    this topic.

Also, adding original and compelling content on a regular basis may help Google
crawl your pages regularly. It can have the added benefit of attracting links to
your pages too. Finally, design your site with your users in mind, and be
patient and consistent in your efforts. To attract quality backlinks and develop
your optimization strategy, it's important to keep a clear structure for your
pages and regularly add organic content.

Google Analytics - Your Blog Analyzed

While your current website host probably already provides some basic information, here are just a few of the reports that Google Analytics has to offer:

  • New Visitors vs Returning Visitors

  • Absolute Unique Visitors

  • Average Pageviews per Visitor

  • Average Time spent on Site

  • Traffic Sources (Referring Sites)

  • Visitors Geographic Location

  • Keywords used to find Your Site

  • Most Popular Pages

  • Top Exit Pages

  • Track Your AdWords Campaigns

First you will need a Gmail account if you don't already have one. Then you will
need create a Google Analytics Account. Installing Google Analytics does not
require knowledge of HTML, but there is a piece of HTML that must be copied onto
every page you wish to track.

  • In the lower left hand side of the screen, Click on: Add Website Profile

  • In the box, enter your URL. (For example: www.yourwebsite.com or
    yourblog.blogspt.com.)

  • Set your Country and Time zone, and hit Continue.

  • Your Tracking code will then be displayed in a large box:

  • Highlight the code and Copy.

If you have a web designer maintaining your site, you can copy the tracking code
into an email and have them copy the code into a header or footer include file.
This will make sure the code is automatically loaded onto each page.

For Blogs:

If you are using Blogger, copy and paste the HTML 'snippet' of Code just before
the body tag at the end of your template. The code only has to be copied once to
track all of your posts.

  • Sign into Blogger

  • Click on the Layout Tab

  • Click on Edit HTML

It's always a good idea to back up your template before you make any changes.

  • Click on Download Full Template to back up onto your computer.

  • Scroll down to the bottom and paste the tracking code just before the
    body
    tag.

  • Click on Save Template at the bottom of the screen.

Back in Google Analytics you will see: Tracking code not detected under the
status column.

Click on Check status or Verify Tracking Code under the Status column. (Don't
worry about Conversion Goals (0) right now.) Once your tracking code has been
verified, the status will change to: Receiving Data.

It will take about 24 hours before you start seeing any data.

Check back the next day and familiarize yourself will all the reports. The
longer you have have Google Analytics installed, the more interesting and
valuable the data will be.

SEO Tips

Millions of blogs, and only the top 10 results. It seems like a recipe for headaches and back pain. If you don’t mind, I’ll see if I can give you some pain medication in the form of tried and true methods for getting your blog to show up in those top 10 results.

Headlines: Should be no more than 60 characters, How to’s and top 5 or 10 lists usually work the best to bring in readers. It is also easy to digg a “How To List” or “Top 10 list”. If your keywords are “Internet Business” or “Movie Critiques”, an example could be “The top 5 movie critiques for online shoppers.”

. Text: Make your paragraphs no more than 6-7 sentences. Lists and bullet points are easier on the eyes and help people read your whole post. Obviously your keywords are an important consideration, have your keyword research handy when writing any post. First and foremost is your reader though, so don’t sacrifice semantics/readability for your keywords.

Links: Link to influential blogs or sources as much as possible (no more than 8 links in one post though, you don’t want the reader to get all confused by the abundance of outbound links). There are at least two reasons for this: 1) If you link to an influential blogger, they will see your link, and possibly reciprocate one back to you if your article is good enough. 2) Trusted sources are worth their weight in gold if you want to be seen as an industry expert and to keep your readers coming back for more.

Ultimately you will want people to read what you write on your blog. That’s why we have to prepare your blog in such a way that the search engines will find it easier. There are ways to get immediate traffic to your site using Stumbleupon or Digg or some other social bookmarking service, which we use extensively. But the real value in having your post or article go “viral” is for the links that almost automatically come from people who like what you have written. Relevant, keyword targeted text links from a high profile blog or site counts alot towards how well you rank for a particular keyword phrase. Use Stumbling and Digging as much as needed, but first write good content, and make your site search engine friendly.

Last but not least, make your RSS feed readily available at the top of your page somewhere. That is usually the first place people look for an RSS feed if they like your post, and if someone wants to link to you or a post of yours, you should give them as many options as possible to do so. An RSS feed is great for publishing content that will then get read and possibly linked to more often.

Search Engine Optimisation

For some people, learning about SEO means
refining skills they already have. If you are new to blogging or Web writing, or
perhaps an old hand but one who never thought about SEO, here is some very basic
essentials you should, and must, know. Here are all the questions about SEO you
always wanted to know, but were too embarassed to ask your blogroll buddies.

What is SEO?

SEO stands for search-engine optimization.
Basically, optimizing your site means you make it friendly to search engines so
they think it’s really cool and they tell others it’s really cool. They do that
by showing it very high when someone searches for key phrases related to your
site.

Why do I need SEO?

You don’t, if you don’t want people to read your
stuff. If you do, you should really learn about it. If you never think about SEO,
you might get lucky and happen to be optimized by chance. But if you have a blog
on photography, you want people who search for key terms related to photography
to find you.

Great. So how do I start
this SEO thing?

There are plenty of companies who charge a lot
for SEO services. For many people, there are just a few key steps to get your
mind thinking a little more like a search engine. Before you write content,
think about this:

  • Would I search for anything I just typed
into the title of my page or blog post?

  • If I did type that in, would I stay if I
    read this post?

How do I write for SEO?

There are really a few simple steps to writing
your first optimized page. This isn’t sophisticated, and doesn’t get into subtle
nuances. But if you follow these basic tips, you will be taking the first steps
to writing content for search engines as well as people.

  • Decide what you want to write about it.
Now go do a search to research the article.

  • What did you just type in? That’s
probably your keyword phrase right there.

  • Just to be sure, do a little keyword
research. A good free resource for beginners is the Overture Keyword
Selector Tool. Type that same search term in there, and see if anyone is
searching for it. Try a couple variations as well. For example, you may find
that more people search for photography tutorials than search for picture
    tips.

  • Now write. If it helps, write that
keyword phrase you are targeting on a sticky note and post it on the top of
    your monitor.

  • If you have the ability to use meta tags
with your page, reinforce that keyword phrase there in the title,
description and keywords. Do not go too long, but keep focused to terms
    directly related to that phrase.

  • Use the keyword phrase in your title and
    in your first paragraph.

  • Repeat it as appropriate, and don’t just
think about the words that appear. Take advantage of alt tags for images,
and name pictures with those keyword terms. Use it in headers. If you plan
to link to other sites, use the phrase when appropriate there.

Best Web Hosting Options

The best webhosting plan for you will depend on your goals for your new website. If you are simply putting together a website to store some personal files, then you are not going to need all the bells and whistles. Similarly, if you don't expect a lot of traffic, other than from a few friends who want to see what your new blog post is about, you can get by with minimal requirements and don't really need to pay attention to the features. The cheapest plan available, or even free webhosting platforms, would probably do the trick.
However, where you need to start paying more attention is if you expect to build a website as a business, or if you are working to build something that will have steady traffic. There are still a number of low pricing options for you to choose from, but the best webhosting plan you can find may be worth paying for. The best webhosting programs will include:

Free Set Up
Unlimited domains
Unlimited emails
Unlimited ftp accounts
Free website builder programs
Plenty of email addresses
PHP and MySQL
Fantastico with blog and forum scripts
24/7 support via chat, phone and email
Large storage space and bandwidth

Your best bet may be to start with a cheap webhosting plan and then scale up when you need to grow. Any hosting company that has 24 hour support can bump you up to the next package in a matter of minutes. What you do want to be concerned about, however, is the up-time. A website that is constant down can be frustrating, and it can cost you a lot of time when you are trying to get work accomplished over the weekend and your website is not live.

What is there to know about ASP Web Hosting?

In the realm of the World Wide Web, the term ASP means Active Server pages. These are pages that allow view modifications depending on the input of the user. Thus a dynamic page generated by a database will be viewed. This allows interaction with Java or Active X components.
Having all things said about ASP, we can now define ASP Web Hosting as providing a platform for the ASP to operate.
- How is this done?
To allow modifications, ASP codes are embedded on the web pages to link it to a database. This database is used to process some information about the user. Users may have to log in to upload their personal settings.
ASP tags are used in place of the ordinary html tags to tell the server that it has to execute a command as an ASP.
- What is the difference between an ordinary html page and an ASP page?
It works this way: when a user types a URL address, or clicks a hyperlink, it causes the web server to send a particular file. In the case of ordinary html pages, the page viewed by the user would have no difference with the file stored in the web server.
In the case of an ASP, however, the page that the user will view will be somewhat different because of the presence of a database. The web server will run the html code. The ASP code will run afterwards. Certain information will be needed by the database to generate the interactive page.
- What are the things that we need to know when looking for an ASP web host?
Here are some of the things you need to check in choosing a web server.
- A Windows 2000 server
Get a server who has the capacity to host your site on a Windows 2000 server. This is an important requirement since Windows provide greater stability for ASP pages. Also, ASP works well with Window’s Internet Information Services.
- Database
Be sure to check with your prospective web host if they support the database that you are using. You will waste, time, effort, and money in investing in an ASP web host which are not capable to process your information.
ASP web hosts vary in their capacity to handle ASP codes. Some companies only allow simple ASP codes.
It will also have to depend on your expected viewers.
MySQL or Access database will do the job for small sites.
However, if you expect tons of site visitors, it is recommended to use MSSQL. It has the reputation to control high site traffic, and it has indexing issues covered up.
- Bandwidth
This refers to the amount of information allowed to be sent to viewers each month. The thing to check here is the kind of files you offer. Texts and small images eat up only a fraction of the bandwidth. However, you need a higher bandwidth if you are dealing with multimedia files.
- Storage
This refers to the amount of space that the web hosting company allows for storing html as well as ASP files. This will not only help you in deciding the stuffs that you can store, but it can also help you in optimizing contents for ease in uploading.
With all the facts you have read in this article, you have the basics of ASP. You are on the right track in choosing an ASP web host.

One of the most important things to look for in a web host provider is how much space they actually offer. Another thing to consider is bandwidth. This is the amount of information that can be transmitted per unit of time. A lot of times some websites cannot be accessed because they are located in servers that do not have enough bandwidth.
Hidden costs
Some web hosting companies claim to have the lowest prices. But what they don't tell you is that the service they are offering only provides basic features. How to Choose a Web Hosting Company

The popularity of websites and blogs not only for personal but also for business purposes has made web hosting companies a necessity for website owners and bloggers alike. They must choose the most efficient web hosting companies in order to maintain their websites and blogs.
The increasing number of website and blog users has also increased the demand for web hosting companies. Luckily, the economic principle that demand is inversely proportional to supply and cost or price, does not hold true for this sector. Thanks to a corresponding increase in the supply of web hosting companies, web hosting charges are becoming reasonable and even free.
There are thousands of web hosting companies to choose from. Those who maintain websites for their personal use choose web hosting companies that offer free web hosting in exchange for the placement of advertisement banners or links on their sites. However, those who maintain websites for business purposes choose the more reliable web hosting companies that do bill corresponding charges for the services they offer.
But before you choose a web hosting company, make sure that you have completed the design of your website. The kind of website you have will determine the kind of web hosting company that you will require.
Simple websites that are maintained for personal reasons do not really require much space and it is more practical to avail of the free web hosting services offered by some web hosting companies. However, websites that are dedicated to business with more online transactions should make use of a web hosting company that can guarantee a 99.99 percent uptime, as well as a 24-hour technical support staff.
Web hosting companies that guarantee 99.99 percent uptime may be quite expensive but you can be diligent and choose the less expensive packages. If you scrimp on web hosting payment, then you can only blame yourself if you find yourself losing more and more business transactions just because your web hosting company has more downtime than uptime.
Samples of web hosting companies
There are a variety of choices for those who are new in website maintenance and who are looking for web hosting companies. Hostway is considered one of the top web hosting companies in dedicated hosting. This means that for a certain monthly or annual fee, the website gets its own server, without sharing it with other websites. There's also DataPipe and Media3. Interland web hosting company offers online marketing while ValuwWeb boasts of a guaranteed 99.99 percent uptime.
There are other web hosting companies that offer quality web hosting at cheaper prices. Take a look ate Bluehost, which offers web hosting services for only $6.95 a month inclusive of a domain name, blog, eCommerce, Content Package and to top it all, it offers 10 Gigabyte of space for the website.
There is also SimpleHost, a web hosting company that offers Domain name, unlimited email accounts and storage space, site building and control panel, blogs and photo gallery plus shopping carts, for only $7.50 per month.
StarLogic, offers several monthly package deals but it has a %50 a year package that includes 5 Gigabyte space for the website, Domain name, unlimited email accounts and a 99.99 percent uptime.
Whatever kind of web hosting company you choose for your website, make sure that you go for a reputable one. Observe the web hosting company's uptime and technical services, as well as its efficiency in maintaining some of its features, before you sign a long-term contract with them. This way, you will no only lose precious time but also money.

How to Choose a Web Hosting Provider

The choice of an efficient web hosting provider will determine the success of a website, particularly in terms of the number of visitors it is able to generate in a particular period.
There are a thousand and one web hosting providers that are available in the market despite the fact that the web hosting industry is still in its infancy. This makes it possible for neophytes in the website business, to choose the best web hosting providers that are available in the market.
The following must be considered in choosing one's web hosting provider:
The website's space requirementWhen choosing a web hosting provider, make sure that the space allotted for you would be enough for the kind of website you have in mind. An ordinary website uses no more than five megabyte of space but it will still depend on the website. Definitely, a website which uses more features like photos, sound and video files and other effects would use up more MB's than a bare website which is exclusively filled with text. You also have to consider the possibility of uploading JPEG or HTML files and whether your web host has a maximum size requirement for uploading into your website.
Website advertisingWhen you choose a provider which offers free web hosting, you have to accept the fact that they will require you to carry their advertisements on your site, usually in the form of banners or pop ups. Since your provider has offered free hosting, then it should follow that you also have to do something for him by helping him generate sales through the advertisements posted in your site. The advertisement usually pays for the expenses incurred in hosting the website for free.
PriceWhile there are web providers that provide free hosting, most are limited in terms of space, bandwidth and other features. If you want to have more freedom in your site, then you can opt for a provider that offers reasonable web hosting charges. Usually, annual payment schemes come out less expensive than monthly payment schemes. However, availing of the annual payment scheme will tie you up with the provider and you cannot switch to another provider even if you find your present provider inefficient.
If you are just starting with your personal homepage, then free web hosting is ideal. However, if you intend to put up a website for your business, then it would be wise to select a provider that offers reasonable charges in exchange for more efficient web hosting services. If you avail of free web hosting, then you just have to be content with what they have to offer you in terms of service efficiency. As they say, beggars can't be choosers. If the web hosting is given for free, then do not expect them to have technical services available for you 24 hours a day.
Uptime rate of the providerIf you avail of free web hosting, then you have to bear with the provider's downtimes. But if you are paying for the web hosting, then you better choose a provider that can guarantee you a 24-hour uptime. Imagine the losses your business would suffer if your service provider could not go online most of the time.
If your site falls in the small business category, then it is practical to avail of shared hosting. This means that you share your server with other websites. If you have a bigger and more lucrative business which requires plenty of online transactions, then dedicated hosting is for you. This means you have the serve all to yourself, with n o other websites sharing the server.

Reviewing Web Hosting Providers

With the advent of the Internet, many people had shifted into using it as a major marketing tool. Websites have been growing like mushrooms every minute. Indeed, the web had made an impact in the world.

Support
One must also consider what kind of support will be given by the web hosting provider. If one is comfortable, or is an expert in terms of the Internet language, he can choose a provider which offers at least an e-mail back-up support service. But if one is not too familiar with computers and the Internet, he should consider availing web hosting from a provider with a 24-hour cal center support service.
A good way to test a web hosting provider’s support service is by giving them a call. One can have a general feeling about how the support team will handle problems and resolve them.
Traffic Handling
If one is expecting his website to gain immediate popularity and generate large Internet traffic volume, he should consult the provider if the fees would shoot up if this happens. Negotiations can be done if this is the case.
Restrictions
If the website will be containing illicit material or materials which could be interpreted as such, it is best for one to ask the provider about their restrictions regarding website content.
E-mail
There are packages which provide personalized e-mail addresses. If this is necessary for the business, then one should be able to determine the e-mail capabilities of the web hosting service. If one is not in need of this kind of perk, he can do away with it.
If one is currently under a certain web host but is not satisfied with the service that it is providing, then he can shift to another web host. Changing web hosting providers will seem to be a difficult and arduous task to do, but in reality, it’s relatively easy. One can do this buy republishing his website into the new web address provided by the new web host. This can be done with Frontpage. Providers can actually provide someone with a new IP address quite quickly.
There are many web hosting providers out there. Make sure that you are availing of the best service which suits your needs and preferences.

What is Virtual Web Hosting and How Does It Benefit Small Businesses?

Since its inception, the Internet has always been regarded to as the next most valuable commodity this virtual world has ever created. That is why the growing interest in the Internet has caught the eye of people everywhere.
No wonder why many people are trying to put their businesses in the Net, whether these things are for profit or not. It is like simply being a part of a big network where none knows each other but they are constantly connected and linked to each and everyone who goes online.
Survey shows that almost 75% of the population in the United States alone would want their business be placed in the Net. That is why more and more people are trying to know how to make a website. This is because one would never be able to start doing transactions online if he does not have a website.
The creation of a website can be done offline, from the implementation of the design up to the final changes. However, you can never make use of it if it will not be displayed online. In addition, without visitors, there will be no chances for possible sales and profits.
However, the only way to place your website online is to use a server. Basically, a web server is a program that runs a web site. Whenever you are surfing a web site, you are actually interacting with the web site’s web server.
So, since the web server is the one responsible in maintaining and keeping your web site’s information, it is important to choose a web server that will best work for you.
On its basic context, the use of web server actually pertains to the act of renting a specific “space” provided by another computer or through the help of a specific server. This process is known as web hosting.
There are many kinds of web hosting and not all of them are fit for the individual needs of every web site. For instance, there are some people who wish to have their own web site, whether it is for commercial or for personal use. Hence, these kinds of web sites do not require complicated types of web hosting. It needs some type of web hosting that would give them the simplest forms of different services in the web but can still uphold the purpose of the web site.
Thus, they need virtual web hosting. This refers to the process of renting out a specific portion of somebody’s server. Since you will be somewhat sharing the space with your host, virtual web hosting is also known as “shared hosting.” Also, the fact that many web sites can gain access to the Internet just because of a single server, sharing is definitely the name of the game.
For this reason, many web experts contend that virtual web hosting is actually more practical and workable than the other types of web hosting. This is because virtual web hosting, when compared to hosting your own site, is absolutely cheaper to maintain and involves lesser risk.
With these economical values, it is highly recommended by most experts to use virtual web hosting for small online businesses, especially those who are still new in online marketing. Plus, with its friendly user interface, anyone, who is not knowledgeable in the technical aspect of the Internet as far as hosting is concerned, can actually put up a web site without any trouble.
Indeed, virtual web hosting is the perfect way to start a small business like that of a pro.

4 Things to Consider in Choosing the Best Web Hosting Plan

If you want your web site to obtain the appropriate “web presence” in the Internet, it is best that you choose a good web hosting plan. This will determine the kinds of features and enhancements that your web site need.
Generally, web hosting refers to the way computer servers provide available space for those who wish to put up their own web site. Like in apartment rental services, the space provided is a commodity where the tenant pays a specific amount in order to temporarily rent or lease the area.
Same thing goes with web hosting. The owner of the web site has to avail a specific web hosting plan in order to make use of the space being provided by the web host.
Web hosting plans differ according to the features needed by a particular web site. Usually, web hosting plans vary according to the size of the bandwidth and the amount of disc space provided.
Hence, it is important that you already know what your website needs before you choose a particular plan. In this way, there will be no risk for your money.
However, choosing a web hosting plan do not just top there. It is not enough that you merely consider the main features of the plan. It is also important to know if a particular web hosting plan can also provide you with the following services:
1. Email accounts
A good web hosting plan does not just focus on giving you a better bandwidth or a bigger disc space. It is best to know if they can also give your web site an email account. In this way, you can access all your emails in just one domain.
2. Capacity for updates on a regular basis
It is important to choose web hosting plan that can provide you with quality updates continuously. This means that you do not just receive updates for your web site for a couple of hours, thrice a week. A good web hosting plan should give your web site continuous updates 24 hours a day within a week.
3. Uninterrupted email and telephone support
Even if it is nice to have a continuous email support, it has been a well accepted fact that it takes time to have your email answered.
Hence, having some immediate technical support through the telephone, in the event that your web site goes down, is a great advantage. In this way, your problems will be answered in the shortest time possible. The sooner they can make your web site working properly again, the better.
4. Optimum customer service
A good web hosting plan with respect to its amount should have the best customer service. After all, you are paying them with your hard-earned money, and so, you rightfully deserve to get what you have paid for. This goes to show that whenever there are some problems in connection to your web site, the web hosting provider should be able to resolve the problem immediately.
Web hosts that have proven record of accomplishment are usually the ones that can give you quality customer service. This is because the level of expertise that they have gained throughout the years is enough to give you a proficient customer service.
Indeed, choosing a web hosting plan can be very tricky especially if you are not yet aware of the different factors to consider.
The problem with most web site owners is that they tend to focus more on the size of the bandwidth and the amount of the disc space alone. They do not go into the details of having these additional features that would truly make their payments for the plans worthwhile.
Therefore, the next time you contemplate on a web hosting plan, try to go deeper into the details so that you definitely obtain what you will be paying for.

When it comes to web sites, the lifeblood is the server. This functions to host the web resources.

What is web hosting?

The pages in your web site will have to be run from a server. This server will respond to the users and visitors of your website by allowing them to view the pages. Files, HTML of a website and other documents are uploaded and stored in the web server. These will then be made available online or in the World Wide Web for the public to view. This is what web hosting is all about.

Web Hosting Solution

There are several companies online that give the perfect hosting solutions. They serve as the engine to your web sites. However, the more crucial considerations in the success of your web site will also depend on how you choose the host.

Choosing the Right Web Host

Here are some points to consider in picking the best web host for your online business:

1. Disk Space
This pertains to the amount of space allotted to you by the web host for your pages, documents, images and other files. If you plan to put a number of audio or video files on your web site, it is important to get a larger storage.

2. Data Transfer
The data transfer is the amount of outward-bound traffic in your web site. The hosting package will usually set a monthly bandwidth transfer limit. Whenever a visitor views a web page, the files used for that page will be used to determine the data transfer. These are usually calculated in terms of gigabytes. Once you consumed more than what is allotted, there will be an extra charge. Evaluate this aspect carefully before picking the server.

3. Support
Get a server that is secured and reliable. Get one that gives good support. A small server may be cheap but it could cost you more if it is always down. Check if the web host offers 24/7 support to its clients.

4. Programming Languages
ASP, JSP, PHP, Perl/CGI and Cold Fusion are the usual programming languages used to create software in maintaining the web site. This will be very useful like when you find a new script written in PHP. If you know that your web host supports PHP, you can easily grab the new script.

5. Costs
Cost is important too. You definitely cannot ignore the budget. Thus it is important to search for a web hosting plan that will give you the desired disk space and data transfer at a reasonable price. Usually, there are several plans to choose from. Some would pick one plan and upgrade later for more disk space when their online business grows and expands.

6. Emails or Newsletters
Communication is important in an online business. Thus, newsletter and email support must be secured together with the web hosting plan. This is one way to immediately hear any inquiry or request of customers.

7. Site Statistics
It is important that you are able to know how many visitors go to your web site and where they actually come from. This will also be helpful in determining which avenue worked best in promoting the website.
